The “green oil”

The “green oil” continues to spread along the Costa del Sol, and Mijas is once again home to a new golf course.

Developed by the successful Grupo C company, and opened in May, Cerrado del Águila currently comprises nine holes – with work beginning on the second nine this year.

The new course is situated near Fuengirola, in Mijas´s Golf Valley not far from El Chaparral, La Cala, Santana Golf and Mijas Golf and close to the Costa del Sol racecourse. Without doubt, the ideal location for keen golfers.

The course is designed by Ignacio García, international golf course architect, who has taken good advantage of the available land to ensure flat and wide fairways – very easy to play. Ignacio García Rivas, famous engineer and father of the architect, and one of the best greenkeepers in the coast, were involved in construction.

The first nine is highlighted by two par-5s, the 2nd and 9th – 520 and 555 metres, respectively.

IGGA Arquitecto de GolfMost of the fairways are wide, combined with others that require more precision. The greens are not all that large but offer various pin positions; and there are spectacular views of the Mediterranean sea from all the holes.

Also planned soon for this new Costa del Sol course are a five-star hotel and a superb clubhouse, its extensive amenities to include saunas and jacuzzis in the changing room.

The project will also comprise a real estate development of apartments and villas, but never intruding on play.
