Karpenko´s great debut in Cup

Nicolás García Karpenko debuts as the most valuable player in the Malaga Federation Basketball Cup, male cadet category, signing two double-doubles in the first two games.

The 16-year-old player from Marbella continues to play sweetly and makes his big debut in the Federation Cup at the rate of a double-double. Because of his scoring ability and his rebounding dominance, it is very common to see Karpenko in double figures. So much so that in the 18 cadet category games that he has played so far this 2023-2024 season, he has scored double-doubles on 13 occasions. Two of them, in the recently launched Federation Cup, where he is already the most valuable player in the competition, with 32 rating credits and a stratospheric average of 18.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3 assists per match.

Last Wednesday, March 20, IGGA GROUP CBSP 2008, directed by coach Raúl Espinosa, debuted in the Federation Cup, beating Málaga Basket’08 at home by 67-54, with a brilliant Karpenko, as outsider and lord and master in the painting, with 9 rebounds on offense and 8 on defense. The versatile player recorded a double-double with 13 points, 17 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists, 1 block, 1/1 in free throws, 3 fouls received, and earned 11 rating credits.

However, two days later, San Pedro team, led by coach Fran Hiraldo, lost the second match in the Federation Cup against CB Novaschool 2008 in the pavilion of the Novaschool School in Añoreta, Rincón de la Victoria (Málaga), despite to play with an exceptional Karpenko, who signed a second consecutive double-double, with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 3 triples, 5/7 free throws (71%) and 7 fouls received. In addition, the unstoppable Karpenko took home 21 rating credits and the awards of MVP of the match and top scorer of the second day of the competition.

The game keys. – The San Pedro team got up on the wrong foot and lost the first quarter by 10 points (28-18). However, they tied their efforts to come back in the second (42-40), and came to lead the score, to the surprise of the locals, in the middle of the third (44-47), thanks to the 20 points scored by a huge Karpenko in 24 minutes of play. Finally, in the last quarter and a half, the game became a coming and going from side to side that harmed the Sampedreños. They could not maintain the intensity of the game and stopped finishing the plays with the most valuable player of the game, who only added 4 points (2/2 free throws and 1/1 two-point shot) in the last 15 minutes. That gave wings to the Novaschool students who, in the end, opened a gap on the scoreboard to defeat the visitors with authority (81-66).
